How to Choose the Right Editing Mode for AKASO 360: Pano or Reframe?

In the AKASO 360 App or AKASO 360 Studio, there are two editing modes: Pano and Reframe.

Not sure which one to choose? The difference comes down to the kind of video you want to make: an interactive 360 video, or a standard video with the view already framed.

What is the difference between Pano and Reframe editing mode?

With Pano editing mode, your video stays 360. Viewers can look around the scene when they open it in a supported 360 player, platform, or device.

With Reframe editing mode, you turn the same 360 footage into a standard video. You choose the view, framing, aspect ratio, projection style, and camera movement before exporting.

Pano leaves the view open for the viewer. Reframe lets you decide what the viewer sees.

How to Choose the Right Editing Mode?

1. Choose based on what you want to show

When the whole scene matters, use Pano. This works well for a scenic view, route, room, or event space. The point is to let viewers explore what was around the camera.

When you want to direct the shot, use Reframe. This works better when the viewer should follow a person, action, riding highlight, tutorial step, or product detail. You decide the frame, projection style, aspect ratio, and movement before export.

2. Choose based on where you will post it

Platforms that support 360 video: choose by your content goal. YouTube and Facebook can host both standard videos and 360 videos, so the right mode depends on what you plan to upload. If you want viewers to explore the full scene, use Pano and follow the platform's 360 video requirements. If you want a fixed-frame video for a normal post, use Reframe.

Regular social video feeds: use Reframe. For short-form or standard social feeds, Reframe is usually the better fit. You can choose the angle, crop the frame, and guide the viewer through the best part of the clip instead of leaving them to search around the full 360 scene.

3. Choose based on your local playback device

VR headset: If you want an immersive 360 viewing experience, use Pano and open the video in a VR app or player that supports 360 video.

Phone, tablet, computer, or TV: For local playback, first make sure the device, app, or player can show 360 video correctly. If you want the video to open like a normal clip across everyday devices, use Reframe.

Can I turn AKASO 360 footage into a normal flat video?

Yes. Use Reframe editing mode to create a standard flat video from your 360 footage. You can decide how the scene appears in the final frame before exporting.

Can viewers still look around after I export with Reframe?

No. Reframe exports a fixed-frame flat video, so viewers watch the frame you created. If you want viewers to look around the scene, use Pano and play or upload the video in an environment that supports 360 playback.

Why can't people drag around my exported video?

Usually, this happens for one of two reasons: the video was exported as a flat video, or the player did not recognize it as a 360 video. To keep the viewing experience interactive, the video needs to remain 360 content and be opened in a supported 360 playback environment.

Should I use Pano or Reframe for YouTube?

It depends on what kind of YouTube video you want to publish. Use Reframe for a normal YouTube video with fixed framing. Use Pano if you are preparing an interactive YouTube 360 video and following the platform's 360 upload requirements.

Why can't I choose Pano editing mode?

First check the shooting mode used for that clip. If the footage was recorded in 360° Video Modes, you can use Pano editing for a 360 export. If the footage was recorded in Single-Lens Video Modes, Pano editing mode will not be available during editing.
